Dignity as a semiotic concept

Abstract

In the present article the concept dignity is regarded as a semiotic concept. Investigations of the given concept take place in the works that involve studies of human psychology, systems of philosophy concerning moral virtues, happiness, moral aspects of culture, and problems of human existence in the world. Consideration of the concept dignity in terms of linguistics reveals variety of word forms, presents important variations of the semantics of the concept hence giving an opportunity to identify its characteristic features, its symbolic meaning and to model the structure of the concept. The concept dignity is studied in the article on the basis of the English linguo-culture. The semantic field of the concept and specific features of the given concept in the English linguo-culture are shown in the article.
