Abstract

This article discusses the specific features of functioning the phenomenon paronymy in English language. In foreign linguistics, there is no exact consensus on paronymy in learning foreign language. The paronymy as the phenomenon of "speech" semantics, is realized by speaker (a producer and the recipient) in the course of communication, as the fact of collision of paronyms in their speech. Paronyms are characterized by different meaning and their mixture in speech happens in the reason of not knowing the exact meaning. The essence of paronymy is when in speech (written and oral) words enter into the relation of a semantic contamination, i.e. one word as though "infects" with another meaning word. Theoretical and practical researches of the given phenomenon play an important role in assessing and understanding the significance of the phenomenon as a particular part of a sound and a meaning.
