Conceptual dominants of President’s discourse of Kyrgyzstan

Abstract

The article reviews conceptual dominates (“Power”, “Patriotism”, “Own/Another”, “Politics”), dedicated to the political discourse of Atambaev Almazbek Sharshenovich, the President of Kyrgyzstan. The conceptual dominants are those concepts which reflect the topical and functional specificity of this type of discourse. As an example, an analysis of the dominant concept “Nation” is given. By constructing the nominative and associative area of the concept we can see the content of this concept in language and how it is interpreted in the discourse of the President. The method of the study of political discourse aimed at the identification and analysis of conceptual dominants is enable to determine how the President positions himself in the discourse, what is intentional content of his speech. There is concluded that the President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambaev positions himself in the discourse as sage governor who tries to preserve the national unity of the country, not forgetting about the main role of native ethnos.
