Guillaume Apollinaire and French Modernist Discourse: a Trial of Interpretation (a Case Study of the Poem « Mai » / «May»

Abstract

The article represents the model of interpretation of the poetic text «May» by famous French writer-modernist Guillaume Apollinaire based on the theoretical methodologies of cognitive poetics and linguistic synergy. There analyzed the ways of presenting poetic information, justified the understanding of a textual reality as a virtual one. The poetic text is considered as a dynamic nonlinear open system. The author makes an emphasis on a peculiar creative potential of the conceptual field of landscape in the actualization of poetic meanings of the stream of time and romantic relationships represented in the poem. A special attention is given to the consideration of the technique wordplay and its role in revealing figurative transformations within the work.
