Abstract

This article deals with the notion of «gender» and the reflection of gender in proverbs and sayings of the Kazakh and English languages. The comparison of various definitions helps to reveal the essence of the con­cept of «gender». Gender is a social-psychological construct having a com­plex multicomponent structure reflecting the essence of the mechanism and the specifics of the formation of masculinity and femininity in society. Gender studies consider questions of masculinity and femininity, as well as the rules and behavior inherent in men and women. According to the anthropocentric direction gender features are closely connected with gen­der roles, with a national and cultural originality, folk beliefs, mentality and culture. The analysis of the Kazakh and English proverbs and sayings covering the aspect of gender is made in the article.
