Artistic concept of history in dilogy-novel

Abstract

The article discusses artistic concept of history in the dilogy novel of M. Magauin: «Spring Snow» and «The Time of Troubles.» Basing on documentary materials the author introduces the reader to the whole course of historical contradictions, which are based on conflicts of time and environment. The writer has reviewed a lot of special literature on the history of the Time of Troubles; the documents in the artistic work are used creatively.
Writer’s closeness to historical fact is conditional, even in cases where at first glance the author carefully follows the historical data. The general course of historical events and its particular manifestations provide a unique spin on the novel. The historian or chronicler merely states the incidents of the long-ago, от the contrary, M. Magauin aspires to recreate them artistically, achieving the precondition of historical genre: the fusion of art and science, which the writer has acquired from a present-day perspective, at one point.
