This article is devoted to the analysis of one of the main features of the text – the modality considered in the trial textbook on Russian language for experimental 11th classes of 12-year schools in the Republic of Kazakhstan (Almaty: Mektep 2013). Modality – is the expression in the text of the author’s attitude to the reporting – is one of the training topics which is difficult for perception that conditions the need for careful scientific and methodological comment to it. An important place in the textbook is given to the explanation of the features of types of modality – objective and subjective, and training to grammatical ways of their expression in the text. Objective modality (the ratio of what is reported to the reality) shows the real action, and grammatical means of its expression are the verbs in the indicative mood. Subjective modality expresses the desirability, possibility / impossibility of action, confidence / disconfidence, emotional attitude to what is described, etc. Subjective modality is expressed by verbs in the subjunctive or the imperative mood, as well as through the introductory words, particles, interjections, and inversions. The analysis of literary, especially poetic texts offered in the textbook, where the modality is manifested most clearly, will help the pupils to consolidate understanding of the meaning of modality and ability to identify ways of its expression.Downloads
