Abstract

The article proves that the development of the media, the pace and nature of their growth, the process of transformation in the transition to market economy and democratization of the political system – all of this should be seen as the cause of the deformation of the language. Media plays an important role in the propagation of the language, and in improving literacy. And although there are some positive results on the formation of respect for the language, but newspapers still contain a large number of errors, and television often sounds far from exemplary speech. The attitude of young people to television is given – for many it is the only source and the «torch» in life, the media should carefully handle the language. It is stated that the journalist’s professional activity involves special training, continuous learning and improvement of the language. Particularly high requirements for culture and literacy of journalists working in television and radio are set.
