The subject-conceptual world of Zhyrau Poetry and its transfer in Russian translations

Abstract

Poetry of Zhyrau has fundamental importance not only for Kazakh poetry of five centuries, but also for a number of Turkic literatures as Nogay, Bashkir, Karakalpak, Tatar, Crimean-Tatar, etc. During the 14th-18th centuries, in these related literatures, similar fundamental principles of poetics, rhythm, imagery, composition, use of poetic figures and tropes were formed. Poetry of Zhyrau for the centuries of development has formed its own special cosmos, which can be described as a world view, a world view built on a system of worked relationships, the use of characteristic subject-concept images, markers, symbols, culture, ideology, mythology permeated with a single mentality. In view of the special cultural significance of these word-images, it is necessary to develop Methodology and techniquies for translational perception of these units and their adequate transfer to modern languages. In order to achieve this purpose, it is necessary to conduct an integrally whole analysis of the already existing experience of translating the poetry of the great Zhyraus of the Middle Ages. This article is devoted to this important problem of Translation Studies and Comparative Studies.
