Abstract

The article is devoted to the description of the process of the vulgarization of modern Russian
speech, when in the Russian socially significant practice a new ratio of decent and indecent, polite and
boorish, rationed and unnormalized is created. Vulgarization is characterized as the process of introducing non-literary and stylistically reduced language units into the literary language, which contradicts the
ethical-speech norms of civilized speech communication. The activity of this process is demonstrated by
examples of frequency use of profanity, slang, vulgarism and colloquial elements in the texts of the media, political speeches, fiction and artistic works. It is proved that regular replication of such words and
expressions, tolerant attitude to obscene vocabulary by famous artists and culture makes it familiar to the
addressee and contributes to consolidation in everyday communication. Based on the analysis of various
speech situations, it is argued that the vulgarization has become one of the linguistic toxic phenomena of
modern sociolinguistic discourse, a new speech space has appeared with a large number of destructive
elements that destroy the usual stereotypes of polite speech communication and lead to the creation of
an aggressive picture of the world in the minds of Russian speakers.
