Abstract

The article describes the ways of realization of the expressive function of abbreviations in the language
of the French press. The method of research is the lexical-semantic analysis of abbreviations in
the context of newspaper and journal articles of French periodicals. Abbreviations in the language of the
press are able to realize in different and in varying degrees of intensity and combination between functions:
saving language means, informative, expressive and emotional impact. At present, the question
of the functioning of abbreviations in the language of the press as means of expressive and emotional
impact is the least studied. The appearance of abbreviations is dictated by the need to outline briefly
the new concepts in various spheres of life of modern society. Abbreviations as concepts represent a
complicated semantic complex that allows using them as means of expressiveness. As a result of analyzing
of peculiarities of the functioning of abbreviations in French articles, the author has identified and
formulated the ways of actualizing of the expressive function by abbreviations.
