Fuzuli’s image in the Azerbaijani lyrical poetry of the XX century

Abstract

The history of XX century poetry has gone through various stages in accordance with the political
events. Throughout of the XX century Azerbaijan literature by experiencing different historical and literary changes has gained numerous innovations. In the period when Arabian and Persian languages dominated over Turkish language, Fuzuli has written works in his mother tongue and played a major role in
the formation of national literature and language. In the article adherence to Fuzuli’s heritage is seen in
Balash Azeroghlu’s and Ali Karim’s creative work who lived in that period. In Balash Azeroglu’s creative
work Fuzuli was introduced as a symbol of national poetry. Balash Azeroglu’s “Majnun Willow” poem is
a work dedicated to Fuzuli and his heroes. The poet’s meeting with this tree reminds him Fuzuli and his
famous hero. By its own epithet “Majnun willow” turned into a symbol of madness of love. While emphasizing Fuzuli, Ali Karim uses his creativity. Ali Karim recalls Fuzuli in his poem “Azerbaijan”, calling
him “a open-hearted master who feels all the shades of love”. Generally, Fuzuli is presented as a symbol
of whole Azerbaijan in the XX century Azerbaijan poetry. Ali Karim also emphasizes opening the door
of art and poetry by Fuzuli’s influence, his master’s role in joining this magical world, and considers him
as a teacher.
