Abstract

The most notable works about war of famous American writers of the 20th century are analysed in
this article. The article deals with the problem of peace and war in the works written by the outstanding
American writers.
The analysis concerns such stylistic aspects as composition and style of the novels. The study views
the issues of creation and ways of development of antiwar novels main directions of the XX c American
Literature evolution. The issues of war embodiment in American literature are considered here too.
After the world war II American novel mostly radically affected were distinguished examples of the
realism. In the post- war period USA fostered a great deal of talent, especially in its prose.
The style and subject –matter own much to Sinclair Lewis in “It is not possible” The novel became
best-seller, especially for the civilian stay-at-homes, by and large. He undertakes a difficult revision but
judging the warmongers, whom he fought alongside his life. At the 1936 elections, when reactionists
defeated and Ruzvelt was reelected as one of the most important factors of his victory was declared the
novel by S.L.Lewis.
Political changes in life fascinated writers who wanted to make struggle for a juster society, and in
its international aspect it was a fight against Fascism since the end of the war quest for public support.
Throughout the decade the Communist Party proselytized in the name of international socialism
with success and many of the writers of the decade joined the Party for a while. The article emphasizes that, fight against Fascism since 1941 became the main theme of the mid –
20th century literature in America and to 60-s about 600 books about war were published. Those writers
who had fought in the war and been fortunate enough to survive were going back to it in memory and
imagination. One of the first to do so was Irvin Show, who had served as a military correspondent. His
long novel “The Young Lions” is the finest fictional recreation of the war by American writer.
