Comparative Analysis of Marriage and Family concepts (on the material of Kazakh, Russian and English languages).

Abstract

The article considers the concepts of marriage and family (on the material of the Kazakh, Russian and English languages). The universal and national peculiarities of these concepts in the studied languages have been identified in the course of comparative analysis. For describing the concepts we carried out the associative experiment in the Kazakh, Russian and English languages. The material for the comparative analysis was based on the results of interviewing the native speakers of the Kazakh, Russian and English languages and on the entries from the «Russian Associative Dictionary». The undertaken comparative analysis of the results showed similar and different ideas on marriage and family in the target languages , however, in percentage terms, more negative reactions were revealed in the English language – 14%, in the Kazakh language this indicator was 3%, in the Russian language 7%. The Russian and English respondents gave answers related to the private life of spouses, while in the Kazakh language such reactions were not fixed, because such themes are always avoided in the Kazakh society. In conclusion, it should be noted that a different vision of the fragments of language reality of the representatives of three different language communities are closely connected with the peculiarities of culture and historical development of peoples representing these languages.
