Abstract

The given article deals with phrasal verbs which are used in legal literature. Phrasal verbs represent unique constructions, which have peculiar functional relevance. Due to the accuracy and laconic brevity of transferring meaning, they achieve quite wide distribution. As a result of the research, three hundred of the most frequent phrasal verbs which are typical for the legal literature have been defined. The authors also pay great attention to the phrasal verbs which acquired the status of legal terms. During the work on British National Corpus and Corpus of Contemporary American English it has been determined, that the amount of phrasal verbs used in American variant of the English language considerably exceeds the number of phrasal verbs of British variant.
