Abstract

The article takes the example of Bulgarian translations of Kazakh literature and examines one of the ways that Kazakh culture is finding its place in globalisation. The author has undertaken an attempt to answer the question of whether it ceases to be Kazakh and how a process is in motion whereby it, in this modern stage, survives the quality of Kazakh, and, on a broader scale, European culture. The common traits of Bulgarian translation of the poetic material of the zhyrau (performer of Kazakh oral poetry), which maintain the maximum closeness to the original subject, form and the expressive stylistic organisation of the text are noted. The article examines the issue of what meaning the resolution of the question of the translation’s authenticity assumes. Its influence on the capability of literary translation to become an element of the literary process, of the history of Kazakh literature, not only on the translation’s follow-up strategy, but also future directions of study and research that will touch upon the history of Kazakh literature is also shown.
