Abstract

This article provides an analysis of research work to identify the impact of students' extracurricular work for learning English and the ability to speak at the level of higher education. The objects of the study are first-year students of non-linguistic specialties of the 2021/2022 academic year. In the implementation of this study, some methods are used, such as observation and evaluation of student performance to obtain data. The observational data processing method is carried out qualitatively to understand the phenomena taking place holistically through verbal description, while the assessment of student performance is carried out quantitatively, since the data is numerical. The objectives of this study are (a) to help solve the problem and find an alternative to improve students' ability to communicate in English, and (b) to provide knowledge about the role of extracurricular English classes in supporting students to achieve English language competence in a speaking club.

Keywords: motivation, extracurricular activities, speaking club, speaking abilities, language acquisition.
