DEVELOPMENT OF STUDENTS’ SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY BASED ON THE ART OF RHETORIC
Abstract
This research examines ways to develop students’ social responsibility. The authors review philosophical theories on social responsibility and determine that this ability is based on free choice, justice, goodness, compassion, and honesty. They see opportunities for developing students’ social responsibility skills through teaching the art of rhetoric. They prove that it is possible to develop students’ ability through teaching oratory, citing examples from the speeches of famous orators and arguments from the theory of oratory.
The experimental part of the study was conducted using the action research methodology. The lesson aimed at solving the identified problem consisted of a theoretical lesson, rhetorical exercises covering the language skills of listening, reading, writing, speaking, “Aytalyq” section, and concluding questions. The experiment involved 30 8th grade students of a secondary school. It was observed that through the lessons based on the Art of Rhetoric to solve the problem identified during the study, students’ sense of practical responsibility increased from 33.3% to 93.3%.
The results of this research can be used for research aimed at developing educational values in secondary schools.
