Abstract
The article examines the exceptional contribution of A. Baitursynuly to the formation of national literary terminology on the basis of his scholarly heritage, with particular emphasis on his pioneering role in developing a terminological framework for the genre of drama grounded in the national cultural context. The study analyses the conceptual propositions of the reformist scholar – founder of Kazakh linguistics and Kazakh literary theory – regarding the creation of national terms related to drama as one of the three fundamental literary modes (poetry, prose, and drama) within Kazakh verbal art.
As the first scholar to articulate the nature of the dramatic genre in Kazakh literary studies, A. Baitursynuly laid the foundations for a terminological system addressing drama, a genre historically shaped by the ancient tradition and heavily influenced by concepts of Greek origin. He sought to adapt these terms to the national worldview, offering for the first time interpretations rooted in Kazakh conceptual and cognitive frameworks. In doing so, he established the theoretical prerequisites for constructing a meta-theoretical foundation of drama – a genre traditionally regarded as highly conventional and conceptually complex.
At the same time, it must be acknowledged that the significance of the Nation’s Teacher’s contribution to Kazakh scholarship in this domain has not yet been fully and comprehensively elucidated. The intellectual depth of Ädebiet tanytqysh remains far from exhausted and continues to invite further in-depth investigation. In particular, the conceptual arguments and original terminological innovations related to dramaturgy articulated in this seminal work cannot be said to have received sufficient scholarly analysis or systematic dissemination. Accordingly, the article provides a focused examination of A. Baitursynuly’s theoretical insights and terminological contributions concerning dramaturgy as one of the most ancient and, simultaneously, most complex forms of literary art. The living principles in the scholar’s literary heritage have been assessed.
