Abstract

At the peak of development of scientific technology and the Internet, cooperation between countries has strengthened the ties between the world’s universities. Higher education institutions that have entered into agreements with each other have prepared various projects and programs for the further development of mutual cooperation, and the main focus is the exchange of experience between teachers and students. Therefore, to achieve a fruitful result, successful communication must take place, and the key to such communication is a good command of academic terminology in the space of higher educational institutions. The article is devoted to academic words (terms) used in higher education institutions. The purpose of the study is to find out the scope of application of academic language in the space of higher educational institutions, as well as to determine the linguocultural features of academic words and show the linguocultural interpretation of academic words. To achieve the set goals and objectives, the following methods were used: scientific descriptive method, comparative method, survey, quantitative analysis method and content analysis.

The results of the study show that the meaning of academic words is of particular importance for students of higher educational institutions, since the tradition of using academic words is different in higher educational institutions of the world, and also in the process of translating academic words from one language to another, various difficulties arise due to their polysemy. Therefore, when working with academic words, it is advisable to use academic words specific to each higher education institution. The practical significance of the study lies in its use as a reference for teachers and students traveling to foreign universities to exchange experience or study within the framework of academic mobility, at lectures in the disciplines of terminology, intercultural communication, lexicology, academic writing, translation studies, theoretical grammar of the English language.
